Apparently more than 175 bands participate in this all-afternoon, inclusive event which occurs wherever one may look, and listen, in Somerville, now home to a passel of artists and arts festivals of one sort or another. Somerville Open Studios, the distributed art event for the plastic arts, happened just last weekend. Honk, the great brass band festival, fills the city each fall. And here we have the great PorchFest, which gives one a good excuse to combine urban hiking and appreciative listening. What a great reason to get out there, bump into friends on the street, and take attenuated pauses to hear some rousing music.
